Tyler J. Wood Appointed FMC General Counsel

Chairman Mario Cordero announced today the selection of Tyler J. Wood to serve as the General Counsel of the Federal Maritime Commission. This appointment also designates Mr. Wood as a member of the Senior Executive Service.

Most recently, Mr. Wood served as the Commission’s Deputy General Counsel. He joined the Commission in 2009 as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the General Counsel. During his tenure at the Commission, Mr. Wood has been substantially involved in agency litigation before federal courts and the agreement review process under the Shipping Act of 1984. Before joining the Commission, Mr. Wood served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph R. Goodwin, and was an associate at Goodwin & Goodwin, LLP.

Mr. Wood holds a B.A. from the University of Tennessee and a J.D. from Washington and Lee School of Law.

His sound and reasoned guidance will support the Commission in our oversight of the shipping industry at this dynamic time and as we face new challenges going forward.”

The Federal Maritime Commission is the federal agency responsible for regulating the nation’s international ocean transportation for the benefit of exporters, importers, and the American consumer. The FMC’s mission is to foster a fair, efficient, and reliable international ocean transportation system while protecting the public from unfair and deceptive practices.
