New Monitoring Requirements Give FMC More Insight into Alliance Carrier Operations

The three global ocean carrier alliances (2M, OCEAN, and THE) and each of their member companies will now be required to provide enhanced pricing and capacity information, providing the Federal Maritime Commission with uniform data to use in assessing ocean carrier behavior and marketplace competitiveness.

Commission Seeking Comments on Co-Loading Definition and Tariff Access Fees

A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking issued by the Federal Maritime Commission solicits public comment on whether carrier tariffs should be available free of charge and if the definition of co-loading should be changed to apply only to less than container loads.

Commissioner Dye Releases Final Report for Fact Finding No. 29

Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye issued her Final Report for Fact Finding 29, “The Effects of COVID-19 on the U.S. International Ocean Transportation Supply Chain” at the May 18, 2022, meeting of the Federal Maritime Commission.

Commissioner Carl W. Bentzel to Convene Maritime Transportation Data Initiative Summit June 1, 2002

Commissioner Carl Bentzel will host the Maritime Transportation Data Initiative Summit, the culmination of 18 industry stakeholder meetings held weekly from November 2021 through April 2022.

FMC Receives Fact Finding 29 Final Recommendations & Intermodal Equipment Report

The Federal Maritime Commission met in open session on May 18, 2022 to receive updates on: Fact Finding 29; Assessment of the People’s Republic of China’s Control of Container and Intermodal Chassis Manufacturing; the Vessel-Operating Common Carrier Audit Program; and a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Carrier Automated Tariffs. The Commission met in closed session pursuant to Commission regulations in 46 CFR § 503.73 to further discuss aspects of the VOCC Audit Program that involve proprietary information.
