Maffei 2023 Malcom McLean Award Winner 

Federal Maritime Commission Chairman Daniel Maffei was honored by the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers as the 2023 Malcom McLean Award winner in recognition of his leadership and work over the past year supporting the intermodal transportation industry.

The award was presented by Tom Heimgartner, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers who commended Chairman Maffei for his consistent, strong leadership during unprecedented challenges to the supply chain.  Mr.  Heimgartner also applauded Chairman Maffei for his demonstrated higher engagement and communication while leading the Federal Maritime Commission and for making significant strides in addressing unfair practices and violations of statutes.

In addition to the Malcom McLean Award, Chairman Maffei was presented with a Joint Legislative Resolution issued by the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly commending his leadership on supply chain policy issues.  The proclamation commends Chairman Maffei for his exceptional stewardship of the Federal Maritime Commission, his tireless efforts to address pandemic-related supply chain congestion, and for setting a model example for public service.

“International shipping is an indispensable industry to the world economy and indeed essential to all of our daily lives.  Without trucking, particularly in ports such as the Port of New York and New Jersey, the system would not work.  I thank the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers not only for this high recognition, but for the important work they do on behalf of an industry that is critically essential to our economy and way of life,” said Chairman Maffei.

The award was presented to Chairman Maffei at the Association of Bi-State Motor Carrier’s annual award luncheon held on September 20, 2023, in Kenilworth, N.J.
