Chairman’s Earth Day Award Recognizes Crowley Maritime Corporation
Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Chairman Mario Cordero announced today that the Chairman’s Earth Day Award will recognize the environmental programs of Crowley Maritime Corporation. Crowley Maritime has sought to increase its corporate environmental stewardship by undertaking a number of initiatives across its lines of business, underscoring Crowley’s commitment to the environment.
The FMC Chairman’s Earth Day Award is given annually and highlights technologies, programs, or practices of the maritime transportation industry that, through efficiency or innovation, benefit the environment. The award also looks to emphasize efforts that provide a reduction in environmental harm, emissions or pollutants, and increase the public’s awareness of the maritime transportation industry’s hard work to protect the environment.
“Though this years’ award would normally be announced tomorrow, on Earth Day, in Washington, it is very fitting to make the announcement here today before this gathering of the Professional Environmental Management Association. I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2015 Federal Maritime Commission Chairman’s Earth Day Award is Crowley Maritime Corporation. Crowley has been chosen for its broad commitment to active environmental efforts across their lines of business and throughout the company. Crowley’s efforts include: ordering two new LNG powered ships built in Pascagoula, Mississippi; participation in the spill protection program of the State of Washington, Department of Ecology; and, its membership in the Trident Alliance, a coalition of ship owners advocating robust enforcement of fuel sulfur restrictions. I will formally recognize these accomplishments and present a plaque to Crowley in Washington, D.C.” said Chairman Cordero.
The Federal Maritime Commission is the federal agency responsible for regulating the nation’s international ocean transportation for the benefit of exporters, importers, and the American consumer.
